Knowing Jesus and making Him known!

Hold the Line

Leading up to this the LORD had said though Jahaziel “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but Gods” (2 Chronicles 20:15) Followed by instruction “You will not need to fight this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD who is with you.” (2 Chronicles 20:17)

I never realized until reading this passage that those big battles- ones that trouble you greatly - can be won by simply standing still and singing praises to God. Deuteronomy 10:21 says “He is your praise, and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome things which your eyes have seen. Psalm 9:1,2 says “I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works. I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.”

Often times when trouble surrounds or when the multitudes come we think we need to forge ahead in battle gear or at worst run and hide. But God reminded me today that sometimes we need to instead just hold the line. Hold the line joyfully recalling all the ways in which God has done great and awesome things for us, often times saving us right before our very eyes. Remember to sing His praises, because He is our Praise.

The biggest test of trust is being joyful in the moments that are anything but, and believing that God is fighting the battle for you. Remain still and know He’s going to do what He’s promised. My prayer is that we remember to remain joyful, to sing God’s praises even when life is hard and we may not feel inclined to do so. Because after all, this battle in 2 Chronicles was won and afterwards “The realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet for his God gave him rest all around."
